A Note from Frank Sant'Agata

My work is an expression of my affection for the subjects I paint. These are most often categorized as "nature" and "nostalgia." I am close to old things because I love and appreciate the fine craftsmanship and hand work that went into their creation. I am equally close to nature for its inherent perfection and consistency in a world otherwise altered and controlled by mankind.

My style was best described as, "A representational blend of fantasy and reality." I work exclusively with only three tubes of transparent watercolor pigments. I've learned to mix any and every color from this primary palette of red, yellow, and blue. I apply these permanent, compatible, pigments to high quality, 100% cotton paper for outstanding archival longevity. They are certain to remain long after I'm just a memory.

Thank you for visiting my web site. I sincerely hope you enjoy viewing my art and find something that touches your heart.

My best, Frank

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Frank Sant'Agata is a Brooklyn-born artist, craftsman, and educator whose life and work have been shaped by a deep appreciation for art, music, and craftsmanship. Growing up surrounded by art and antiquities, he was deeply influenced by his artist mother, and his furniture maker father. His early years were spent in his dad's workshop, where he developed a love for quality workmanship and honed his skills in both creating and restoring objects.

Sant'Agata's journey into design and art began with a profession in design drafting, where he worked with detailed plats and rendered designs using India ink on linen. This experience also introduced him to calligraphy, a skill he later mastered. His architectural background further nurtured his interest in illustration, which ultimately led to the development of his distinctive watercolor style.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Sant'Agata spent over three decades running a woodworking and antique restoration shop, a hub of eclectic activity where he built furniture and crafted stringed instruments. This shop became an extension of his creative spirit, blending art with craftsmanship in myriad forms.

A dedicated educator, Frank opened the "Sant'Agata School of Art" in 1986, where he taught children and adults to see the world as artists do—drawing what they observed rather than what they thought. His unique teaching method enabled students of all ages to quickly learn the fundamentals of realistic drawing and painting.

Since 1973, Sant'Agata's drawings, calligraphy, furniture, instruments, and watercolor paintings have reached homes across two continents. A true renaissance man, Sant'Agata embodies the rare combination of artistry, craftsmanship, writing and teaching. Above all, his generosity in sharing his skills and knowledge sets him apart, making him not only a respected artist but also a cherished mentor.
